Bosun, Conniston, Ennerdale, Bob's Choc, Dark, Kendal, Glengarry, etc - there is lots of stuff to sample and (imo) enjoy. But if you dig that little extra scent of "something something" - well, enjoy the lakeland tour. Brand: Gawith Hoggarth & Co Blended By: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. It comes a little moist, but dries out easily after rubbing to an ideal state for smoking. Medium bodied and a great introduction to Perique tobaccos.
The light chocolate topping brings out a nutty sweetness from the Virginias and combines for a mellow and flavoursome smoke. The Perique is used sparingly to give a light figgy taste, but none of the punchy twang found at higher levels. There's also some mature grassy aroma, like late in the summer after the heat. Gawith Hoggarths only VaPer (Virginia & Perique) flake and has the added twist of a chocolaty topping. Sadly this is the only GH&Co tobacco I know of that has perique as an ingredient. The aroma of the raw flake is rich, earthy, slightly sweet, with plenty of perique 'pong'. Either way - a tasty treat for sure, IMO. I've smoked a lot of lakeland blends and to me this one is pretty mild in the scenting - still there, but very faint, almost as if it could be one of those that doesn't have added scents, but is really only scented because it is made in the same place as some more heavily-perfumed stuff. Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Louisiana Flake Pipe Tobacco is a dark air cured flake, made of Virginia and Perique tobacco giving it a very pleasant nutty. A Virginia and Perique blend, it comes flavoured with a light chocolate topping, creating a pleasant mix with notes of figs, cocoa and a mellow nutty sweetness. It isn't a constant tobacco in my rotation but even as a once in a while smoke it is one I'd hate to ever be without.
